The Kingston Lions are a reggae supergroup formed by guitarist and arranger Mikey "Mao" Chung, featuring some of Jamaica’s most legendary session musicians like Boris Gardiner, Mikey Boo, Franklin “Bubbler” Waul, and Uzziah “Sticky” Thompson. They came together to celebrate Jamaica’s rich musical heritage by recording a vibrant album of reggae classics at Anchor Studios in Kingston, produced by Ralph Sall, who's worked with big names such as Paul McCartney and Billy Joel. Their music is often compared to the Jamaican Buena Vista Social Club for its heartfelt, high-fidelity tribute to reggae’s roots, covering iconic tracks from artists like Dandy Livingstone, Desmond Dekker, The Wailers, and The Maytals, delivering warmth, soul, and a deep connection to the sound of the legends.
Their self-titled debut album is praised for bringing a new life to classic reggae songs with a fresh but respectful approach that honors the original spirit. This project is a once-in-a-lifetime collaboration that showcases the passion and talent of some of the island’s finest musicians, aiming to keep the soul of reggae alive for both longtime fans and new listeners alike.
