Oğuz Büyükberber is a Turkish-born, Amsterdam-based clarinetist, improviser, and composer. His work blends contemporary composition, improvisation, Turkish music, and jazz, reflecting his diverse musical influences. He studied bass clarinet with Harry Sparnaay at the Amsterdam Conservatory and took composition lessons from Theo Loevendie. Büyükberber has performed at major festivals across Europe and collaborated with notable artists such as Butch Morris, John Zorn, and Gerry Hemingway. His compositions and improvisations are featured on over 60 albums, including releases on ECM and Blue Note. Additionally, he incorporates visual art into his performances and explores live electronics, often presenting his modular synthesizer work under the alter ego OX Barber.
