Alexander Tamir

Alexander Tamir (1930–2019) was a Lithuanian-born Israeli pianist best known as half of the iconic piano duo Eden & Tamir, formed with his musical partner Bracha Eden. Specializing in works for two pianos and four hands, the duo became legendary for their dynamic interpretations of Romantic and 20th-century repertoire, from Brahms and Rachmaninov to Stravinsky and French impressionists like Debussy. Their crisp synchronicity and flair for dramatic phrasing turned even complex works like *The Rite of Spring* into thrilling conversational exchanges.

Active from the 1950s until the 2000s, Eden & Tamir left a massive recorded legacy, including the *Complete Decca Recordings* reissued here. Their deep dive into Brahms’ piano duets and Hungarian Dances, alongside playful takes on Satie or Liszt paraphrases, showcased their versatility and technical brilliance. Based in Jerusalem, they also championed new music and educated generations of pianists, leaving a lasting mark on chamber music culture.
