Richard Trethewey is a talented Cornish musician deeply rooted in the traditional music and stories of Cornwall. Born in 1988 and growing up surrounded by music in Cornwall, Richard developed a strong passion for folk and traditional songs that narrate the rich history and culture of the region. He studied Folk and Traditional Music at the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne and later trained as a Music Therapist at the University of South Wales. Beyond performing as a solo artist, he plays with groups such as The Rowan Tree, Brother Sea, and Cousin Jack’s Theatre Group. Richard is also a Bard of the Cornish Gorsedh, where his bardic name "Kaner Drollys" means "Singer of Stories," reflecting his dedication to preserving Cornwall's unique heritage through song.
Richard released his debut album *Dig Where You Stand* in 2012, which was inspired by Cornwall’s mining history, and followed it up with *Two Halves* in 2024, an album reflecting both the county’s river estuaries and industrial heritage. His music often blends personal and historical stories, capturing the essence of Cornwall’s landscape, people, and traditions with depth and emotional resonance. Alongside his musical career, Richard works as a music therapist, contributing to the community both through his art and his work with children. His collaborations and performances have included theatre projects such as *The Mousehole Cat*, and he regularly works with local bands and ensembles, making him a well-respected figure in both Cornish music and therapy scenes.
