Cara Tolmie is a Glasgow-born, Stockholm-based artist whose work spans music, performance, DJing, teaching, and research. Central to her creative practice is the exploration of the singing voice and its intimate relationship with the body. She has developed a unique vocal technique called "Internal Singing," which involves sensitive use of breath, movement, and touch to blur the boundaries between human and digital sound. Her experimental approach often disorients the traditional relationship between singer and audience by playing with defamiliarized and sampled voices. Cara has presented her work widely at galleries, festivals, and conferences internationally and is currently a PhD candidate in Critical Sonic Practice at Konstfack in Stockholm.
Cara is also known for her collaborative work with UK producer Rian Treanor, with whom she released the 2025 album *Body Lapse*. The album showcases her supple, acrobatic vocal style merged with Treanor’s complex, deconstructed electronic soundscapes. This project highlights their shared roots in working-class, post-industrial environments, creating music that is equal parts intellectually adventurous and viscerally expressive. Some of their notable tracks include "My Little Loophole," "Endless Not," and the title track "Body Lapse".
