Sa-Roc

Sa-Roc, born Assata Perkins, is a visionary hip-hop artist hailing from Washington, D.C. With a potent blend of spirituality, social consciousness, and sharp lyricism, she has rapidly ascended as a voice to be reckoned with in the rap community. Emerging onto the scene in the early 2010s, Sa-Roc has distinguished herself with a prolific output, releasing over a dozen projects in less than a decade. Her skills caught the attention of Rhymesayers Entertainment, home to indie hip-hop heavyweights like Atmosphere, with whom she signed in 2016.

The depth of Sa-Roc's artistry shined with the arrival of "The Sharecropper's Daughter," her first full-length album with the label, released in October 2020. This seminal work delves into her personal journey, weaving tales of resilience and self-discovery through the threads of African American history and womanhood. This project was followed by the deluxe edition, which added new layers and narratives to the original album. Whether featured on tracks with fellow soulful luminaries like Aloe Blacc on "Believe" or captivating audiences with her visceral single "r(E)volution," Sa-Roc consistently delivers music that provokes thought and empowers her listeners. Her artistry is a beacon for authenticity in an industry that often prioritizes flash over substance, and she continues to represent a powerful and necessary force in the evolution of hip-hop.
