Jana Semerádová is a highly regarded Czech flautist, conductor, and musicologist, known as one of the leading figures in the international early music scene. She graduated from the Prague Conservatory, Charles University’s Faculty of Philosophy (studying Theory and Practice of Early Music), and the Royal Conservatory of The Hague. A laureate of international competitions in Magdeburg and Munich, she founded the early music ensemble Collegium Marianum in 1997 and serves as its artistic director. Jana is also the programming director of the concert cycle Baroque Soirées and the international Summer Festivities of Early Music, which showcase her deep interest in Baroque gesture, declamation, and dance, blending music and drama in her unique performance style.
She has an extensive discography, including acclaimed recordings for the Supraphon label, and has performed at prestigious early music festivals across Europe such as Bachfest Leipzig and Utrecht Oude Muziek Festival. Jana regularly collaborates with prominent artists and ensembles including Magdalena Kožená, Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, and Ars Antiqua Austria. In 2015, she earned her habilitation degree as an associate professor of flute at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. Her work is characterized by a passionate dedication to historically informed performance and research, making her a vital force in bringing 18th-century Prague’s musical heritage to life.
