Reinhold Glière

Reinhold Glière (1875–1956) was a Russian and Soviet composer known for his lush orchestration and rich, late-Romantic style. Born in Kyiv, he studied at the Moscow Conservatory and later became an influential teacher, counting Sergei Prokofiev among his students. Glière's music often drew on Russian and Soviet themes, blending folk influences with expansive symphonic forms. His most famous work, the "Ilya Muromets" Symphony (Symphony No. 3), is a sweeping, programmatic piece based on Russian folklore. He also composed ballets, string quartets, and piano works, leaving behind a legacy of grand, expressive music that bridged the 19th and 20th centuries.
