Vitezslava Kaprálová

Vítězslava Kaprálová was a trailblazing Czech composer and conductor whose fiery talent burned brightly during her tragically short life (1915–1940). Born into a musical family in Brno, she became the first woman to conduct the Czech Philharmonic by age 23, smashing gender barriers in classical music. Her bold, expressive works like her *Piano Concerto in D Minor* and *Military Sinfonietta* blend neoclassical energy with Moravian folk influences, earning praise from mentors like Bohuslav Martinů.

Kaprálová’s music—from the playful *April Preludes* to the haunting *Grotesque Passacaglia*—feels both urgently modern and deeply emotional. Despite dying of tuberculosis at 25, she left behind over 50 compositions that reveal her genius for orchestral color and lyrical storytelling. Recent releases like *The Completed Orchestral Works* celebrate her legacy as a fearless innovator who packed a lifetime of creativity into just a decade of work.
