Alex North (1910-1991) was an American composer best known for his work in film and television. He composed over 100 scores for films, including "A Streetcar Named Desire" (1951), "Viva Zapata!" (1952), and "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" (1966). North's music is characterized by its lush, romantic melodies and its use of dissonance and atonality to create tension and drama. He was nominated for 15 Academy Awards, winning one for "A Streetcar Named Desire."
