Constantin Silvestri was a Romanian pianist and composer who lived from 1913 to 1969. He was known for his virtuosic technique and his interpretations of Romantic and Impressionist music. Silvestri studied at the Bucharest Conservatory and later in Paris with Alfred Cortot. He made his debut as a concert pianist in 1933 and quickly gained a reputation as one of the leading pianists of his generation. Silvestri toured extensively throughout Europe and the United States, and he also made several recordings. In addition to his career as a pianist, Silvestri also composed a number of works for piano, orchestra, and chamber ensemble.
