Light Asylum

Light Asylum is a Brooklyn-based darkwave/synthpop project led by Shannon Funchess. Known for their powerful, brooding sound and Funchess's commanding vocals, Light Asylum blends elements of industrial, post-punk, and electronic music into a style that's both retro and futuristic. The duo originally formed in the late 2000s, releasing their debut EP, In Tension, in 2010, followed by a self-titled full-length album in 2012 that drew critical acclaim for its intensity and emotional depth.

Funchess, who has collaborated with other artists like TV on the Radio and !!! (Chk Chk Chk), initially worked with Bruno Coviello in Light Asylum before the pair parted ways. Since then, Funchess has kept the project alive as a solo endeavor, known for electrifying live performances and a devoted fan base. Tracks like “Dark Allies” and “A Certain Person” have become underground anthems, cementing Light Asylum’s place in the synth-driven revival of the 2010s.
