Marching Church is an experimental rock project that was initially formed as a solo endeavor by Danish musician Elias Bender Rønnenfelt, the frontman of post-punk band Iceage. It started as an outlet for Rønnenfelt's musical ideas that were not fitting within the framework of Iceage, but it gradually evolved into a full-fledged band with an ever-changing lineup of musicians from various backgrounds, reflecting a wide array of influences. The band's sound is characterized by a blend of art rock, punk, soul, and free-form improvisation, leading to a raw and impassioned delivery that maintains a distinctive avant-garde edge.
Their discography includes several critically acclaimed releases. The eclectic "This World Is Not Enough" dropped in 2015, marking a definitive statement of the band's ability to merge theatricality with a punkish fervor. It was closely followed by "Coming Down: Sessions in April," an extension of their emotional and sonic landscapes. In 2016, the band released "Telling It Like It Is," which appealed to a broader audience while still maintaining the group's unconventional approach. "Christmas on Earth" continued the band's streak, serving up yet another piece of their expressive artistry. Their most recent offering, "Live at Third Man Records," captures the raw and visceral energy of their live performance, providing fans with a direct line to the band's dynamic stage presence. Marching Church remains a shape-shifting collective, earning a reputation for an uncompromising and unpredictable musical journey that refuses to be pigeonholed.
