Menace

Menace burst onto the UK punk scene in 1976 with a raw, no-nonsense sound that captured the frustration and energy of working-class youth. Formed in London, the original lineup—frontman Charlie Casey, guitarist Noel Martin, bassist Steve Tannett, and drummer John "Biff" Smith—became known for anthems like "G.L.C." (a fiery jab at police brutality) and their chaotic live shows that cemented their cult status. Their 1977 *G.L.C.* EP and later compilations like *The Original Masters (1977-1980)* showcase their punchy, street-level punk ethos, blending snarling riffs with lyrics about everyday struggles. Though they split in 1980, Menace’s influence lingered, and reunion gigs (captured in releases like *Live In Bermondsey*) proved their DIY spirit never died. For fans of unfiltered ’77 punk energy, their discography remains a time capsule of boot-stomping rebellion.
