Lower Plenty

Lower Plenty is a unique fixture in the Melbourne indie music scene, their sound characterized by a raw and evocative style that seamlessly blends folk, country, and lo-fi elements into something hauntingly personal. Named after a suburb of Melbourne, the band is comprised of a talented lineup of musicians from various acts within the Australian underground. Members include Al Montfort (of Total Control and UV Race), Jensen Tjhung (from Deaf Wish), Sarah Heyward, and Daniel Twomey (from Deaf Wish and Exiles).

Since forming in 2012, Lower Plenty has carved a niche for themselves with their idiosyncratic approach to songwriting and recording, often capturing their music on four-track recorders in various living rooms, which contributes to the intimate and introspective atmosphere of their work. Albums like "Hard Rubbish" and its Deluxe Edition counterpart put them on the map, with tracks like "Strange Beast" and "Life/Thrills" further showcasing their ability to craft poignantly beautiful and down-to-earth music. Their later releases, such as "Sister Sister" and "Back to the Foldout," continued to delve deep into the human experience with evocative lyricism and a sense of raw authenticity that has come to define their artistry. Despite operating largely outside mainstream circles, Lower Plenty has earned a dedicated following and critical acclaim, solidifying their place in the landscape of Australian independent music.
