BEAT CRUSADERS were a Japanese rock band known for their energetic blend of pop punk, indie rock, and catchy melodies, often incorporating electronic elements into their sound. Formed in 1997 by vocalist and guitarist Hidaka Toru, the band quickly gained a reputation for their infectious hooks and quirky presentation — they were especially famous for performing with pixelated masks covering their faces, a unique gimmick that became part of their identity.
Their music reached a wider audience in the mid-2000s, thanks in part to several songs being featured in popular anime series, including "TONIGHT, TONIGHT, TONIGHT" for Bleach and "Hit in the USA" for BECK: Mongolian Chop Squad. BEAT CRUSADERS released a string of well-received albums and singles, with their 2008 album "popdod" showcasing their knack for genre-spanning songwriting. The band officially disbanded in 2010, but they continue to enjoy a loyal fanbase and are remembered as one of the most inventive acts in Japan’s alternative rock scene.
