The duo officially formed in 1974 and released their first album in 1978, titled *Zé Mulato e Cassiano Interpretam Zé Carreiro e Carreirinho*. Known for their authentic caipira style, they have been active in the music scene since the late 1960s. Over the years, they have received several awards, including the Prêmio Sharp and Prêmio da Música Brasileira. Their music often reflects their roots and cultural heritage, blending traditional rhythms with contemporary themes.

Their discography includes notable albums like *Meu Céu*, *Navegantes das Gerais*, *Sangue Novo*, *Ciência Matuta*, and *Rei Caipira*. The duo is celebrated for their unique blend of traditional Brazilian music styles, such as toadas, modas de viola, and cururus, often infused with humor and social commentary. Zé Mulato is the primary composer of the duo, drawing inspiration from his experiences and surroundings.
