Damaru

Damaru, whose real name is Dino Canterburg, is a Surinamese singer known for his versatile music style which blends elements from a variety of genres, including pop, zouk, and reggae, often enriched with Surinamese rhythms and soulful melodies. He rose to fame within Suriname and later gained international popularity with his 2008 hit single "Mi Rowsu (Tuintje in Mijn Hart)" performed with Dutch singer Jan Smit.

The success of "Mi Rowsu" marked a significant milestone in Damaru's career, leading to greater recognition in the Netherlands and across the Surinamese diaspora. He continues to release music that resonates with themes of love, life, and celebration, evidenced by his recent releases such as "Laatste kans" and "Mag Ik Vrij Zijn." His song "Yu Na Mang," with its catchy beat and poignant lyrics, showcases his talent for creating music that appeals to both the heart and the dance floor. Damaru maintains his cultural roots and often pays homage to his background, as seen in his tribute to the late Surinamese singer Marciano Leyman, which underscores his respect for his country's musical heritage. As an artist, Damaru embodies a bridge between contemporary sounds and traditional influences, securing his place in the music scene of Suriname and beyond.
