Dying Remains

**Dying Remains** is a brutal death metal trio from the Calgary, Alberta area in Canada (with ties to Airdrie), formed around 2023 by current and former members of the death-thrash band Detherous. Fronted by multi-instrumentalist Damon MacDonald on vocals and guitar, alongside guitarist Scott Oliphant (who also handles mixing and mastering) and drummer Dimitri LaRose, they've quickly made waves with their old-school sound nodding to '90s legends like Morta Skuld (whose debut album shares their name), Obituary, Jungle Rot, and Broken Hope—blending mosh-ready grooves, filthy riffs, and gory vibes.

Kicking off with their 2023 EP *Entombed in Putrefaction* on Maggot Stomp (a label repping heavy hitters like 200 Stab Wounds and Frozen Soul), they followed up with a split and just dropped their debut full-length *Merciless Suffering* in 2025, complete with killer artwork inspired by Morta Skuld's classic cover. Their first gig was opening for Defeated Sanity and Stabbing, and now they're hitting the road on their debut U.S. tour, bringing that mean, aggressive death metal energy straight to the pit.
