Øyvind Gimse is a Norwegian cellist who has been praised for his "warm, rich tone" and "virtuosic technique." Born in Trondheim, Norway, in 1966, Gimse began playing the cello at the age of five. He studied at the Norwegian Academy of Music and the Juilliard School, and has performed with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the New York Philharmonic, and the London Symphony Orchestra. Gimse is also a dedicated chamber musician, and has collaborated with many of the world's leading musicians, including pianist Leif Ove Andsnes and violinist Gidon Kremer.
