G. V. Atri

G.V. Atri, born G. Vijayakumar Atri on May 21, 1964, was a renowned Indian singer in the Kannada language. He was raised in Bangalore and trained in Hindustani classical music under Sheshadri Gavai. Atri specialized in *sugama sangeetha*, a form of modern light music, and was often referred to as "Junior P.B. Sreenivas" due to the similarity in their voices. He composed and sang thousands of songs across genres like romantic, devotional, patriotic, folk, and children's music. Atri also worked as a playback singer for over a dozen Kannada films and was a member of the Karnataka Sangeetha Nrithya Academy. He founded the Sangeetha Ganga music school to nurture young talents. Tragically, he died on April 30, 2000, at the age of 35, along with five family members in a river accident at Sringeri.
