The Archies

The Archies are an iconic virtual band rooted in American pop culture, originating from the animated television series "The Archie Show" which aired on CBS in the late 1960s. The group consists of the fictional characters Archie Andrews, Jughead Jones, Betty Cooper, Veronica Lodge, and Reggie Mantle, who are also the main characters from the Archie Comics universe. The music project was designed to bring the comic book characters to life through catchy pop music, and was created by producer Don Kirshner, who was famously associated with The Monkees.

The band's most enduring hit "Sugar, Sugar," penned by Jeff Barry and Andy Kim, topped the charts in 1969 and remains a quintessential bubblegum pop song, showcasing the classic upbeat and wholesome vibe that defined the genre. The song's success led to a series of releases, and even though the band members weren't "real," session musicians, including lead singer Ron Dante and backing vocals by Toni Wine, gave voice to the characters, turning The Archie's into a household name. Subsequent releases, such as "This is Love," and "Everything's Archie" solidified their status in the pantheon of feel-good pop music. Despite the changes in music trends, The Archies' music continues to be enjoyed with the band's timeless hits receiving various remixes and iterations like the "Sugar, Sugar (Candyfloss Mix)," ensuring their continued relevance in contemporary pop culture.
