Wolfgang Puschnig

Wolfgang Puschnig is an Austrian jazz saxophonist, composer, and bandleader known for his innovative and eclectic approach to music. Born in Klagenfurt, Austria, in 1956, Puschnig began playing the saxophone at a young age and quickly developed a passion for jazz. He studied at the Vienna Conservatory and later moved to New York City, where he immersed himself in the vibrant jazz scene.

Throughout his career, Puschnig has collaborated with a wide range of musicians, including Joe Zawinul, John Scofield, and Gil Evans. He has released numerous albums as a solo artist and with his various ensembles, including the Wolfgang Puschnig Trio, the Wolfgang Puschnig Big Band, and the World Embrace project. Puschnig's music is characterized by its blend of traditional jazz elements with contemporary influences, often incorporating elements of world music, classical music, and electronic music. He is known for his virtuosic saxophone playing, his innovative compositions, and his ability to create music that is both challenging and accessible.
