Isaac Makhdoomi

Isaac Makhdoomi is a versatile musician from an Indian-Swiss background, born in 1984 in Arlesheim and raised in the Basel area. He is a classically trained recorder player and experimental improviser, known for his diverse musical influences. Makhdoomi studied recorder at the Zurich University of the Arts under Kees Boeke and Maurice Steger from 2005 to 2012, completing both a Master of Performance and a Master of Arts in Music Pedagogy. He has been teaching recorder since 2010 and has been a dedicated instructor at a music school in the Baden area since 2013.

Makhdoomi's musical repertoire spans from the Renaissance to contemporary pieces, with a focus on Baroque music. He is also an accomplished composer and has published his works with notable publishers. In addition to his classical work, he collaborates with jazz pianist Andreas Svarc under the name "Sangit Saathi," exploring crossover styles. Makhdoomi has released several albums, including recordings of Bach's Brandenburg Concertos and the complete sonatas of Domenico Maria Dreyer. He was nominated for an Opus Klassik award in 2022 and continues to perform with his ensemble Piccante, which he founded in 2018.
