Wiener Singverein

The Wiener Singverein, known in English as the Vienna Singverein, is a mainstay of the Austrian choral tradition, holding a prominent position in the world of classical music. This illustrious choir was founded in 1858, emerging as an offshoot from the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde in Wien (Society of Music Friends in Vienna), and has since developed into one of the world's most renowned and revered choirs. The Singverein’s reputation is built on its commitment to excellence, refined over a history that spans more than a century and a half.

The ensemble is particularly acclaimed for its interpretations of large-scale choral-orchestral works, which is evident in its rich discography of live and studio recordings. Their musical prowess is displayed in performances of Verdi's "Requiem", Rossini's "Stabat Mater", and Beethoven's "Missa solemnis, Op. 123". Moreover, the Wiener Singverein’s dedication to the choral art form extends to a diverse repertoire, performing compositions from J.S. Bach's "St. Matthew Passion, BWV 244" and "Mass in B Minor, BWV 232" to more contemporary works like Gottfried von Einem’s "Philadelphia Symphonie". Their collaboration with renowned orchestras and conductors, as well as their presence at the prestigious Vienna Musikverein, has secured their reputation as an epitome of choral excellence, appreciated by audiences and critics worldwide.
