Tchiss Lopes

Tchiss Lopes, born Narciso Lopes on July 27, 1959, in São Vicente, Cape Verde, is a multifaceted musician known for his work as a singer, instrumentalist, and composer. Growing up in the vibrant musical scene of Mindelo, he began playing guitar at the age of six and was also a professional football player. In 1980, due to political circumstances, Lopes emigrated to Portugal and later to Rome, where he eventually pursued a career in music. His musical journey includes time as a sailor, which exposed him to diverse sounds, particularly those of Brazil. Upon returning to Rome, he joined the band Cabo Verde Novo and soon released his debut album, *Stranger Já Catem Traboi*, followed by *Já Bô Corre D’Mim* in 1984. These albums reflect his blend of traditional Cape Verdean rhythms with reggae and funaná. Tchiss Lopes has toured extensively across Europe, sharing his unique sound with audiences in Italy, the Netherlands, France, and more.

Tchiss Lopes' music often explores themes of love, longing, and social inequality, reflecting his experiences as a young man abroad. His albums, such as *Já Bô Corre D’Mim*, are characterized by powerful vocals and electrifying guitar solos, blending upbeat tempos with deep, layered sounds.
