Mafalda Favero

**Mafalda Favero** was an Italian operatic soprano whose career lit up stages during the early to mid-20th century. Born in 1905 in Portomaggiore, she studied at Bologna’s Conservatorio and made her operatic debut in 1926 as Marguerite in *Faust*. Known for her expressive voice and emotional depth, she became a star at Milan’s La Scala, collaborating with legends like conductor Arturo Toscanini. Favero shone in roles such as Massenet’s *Manon* (fittingly featured in one of her live recordings) and verismo operas, where her passionate delivery resonated with audiences. Her discography includes treasures like excerpts from *Manon* and partnerships with peers like tenor Tito Schipa. After retiring in the 1950s, she left a legacy as one of Italy’s beloved sopranos, passing away in 1981.
