Dislocation Dance

Dislocation Dance was a quirky indie-pop outfit bubbling out of Manchester’s late-’70s/early-’80s post-punk scene, blending jangly guitars, jazz-tinged rhythms, and deadpan wit into a sound that felt both playful and slightly off-kilter. Fronted by Ian Runacres, the band became cult favorites for their DIY ethos and genre-melding experiments, releasing their debut LP *Music Music Music* (1981) via the iconic local label New Hormones (home to The Fall). Tracks like the twitchy "Slip That Disc!" and breezy "Cromer" showcased their knack for pairing cerebral lyrics with danceable grooves, earning nods from indie fans despite flying under the mainstream radar.

After disbanding in the mid-’80s, their music found renewed life through reissues like *Midnight Shift + Singles* and *The Lost Album*, which unearthed archival gems for a new generation. Recent releases such as *The Ruins of Manchester* and *Road To Happiness* compile demos, live cuts, and unreleased material, cementing their legacy as unsung heroes of Manchester’s eclectic indie lineage. Casual yet clever, their tunes remain a time capsule of post-punk’s anything-goes spirit.
