Red Mitchell was an American jazz bassist and composer. Born in New York City in 1927, Mitchell began playing the bass at an early age and quickly developed a reputation as one of the most talented young bassists in the city. He played with many of the leading jazz musicians of the day, including Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, and Miles Davis. In the 1960s, Mitchell moved to Europe, where he continued to play and record with some of the biggest names in jazz. He died in 1992 at the age of 65.
