Schandmaul is a German medieval folk rock band known for their modern interpretation of medieval music, combining traditional instruments with rock elements. Formed in the small town of Gröbenzell near Munich, Bavaria, in 1998, the band initially started as a side project by members of a folk band called 'Duck's Disease' and rapidly became a fixture of the medieval and folk music scenes in Germany. The name "Schandmaul" translates to "evil-tongue" and was inspired by a figure from German fairytale lore.

Blending narrative storytelling with a mix of instruments such as the bagpipes, hurdy-gurdy, flute, and violin alongside electric guitar and bass, Schandmaul crafts a distinct sound that has won them a loyal fanbase. Over the years, the band has released a number of successful albums and has become a staple at medieval-themed festivals and in concert venues across Europe. Their catalog boasts a plethora of records including the notable 2016 release "Leuchtfeuer," which peaked at number one on the German album charts, and their 2019 "Artus," which continued to showcase their musical depth and creative storytelling.
