Sharks Keep Moving was a short-lived but innovative Seattle rock band formed in 1998. The original lineup included Jake Snider on guitar and vocals, Nathan Turpen on guitar, Jeff DeGolier on bass, and Dan Dean on drums. Their music was characterized by a melodic, often soft brand of rock, incorporating odd time signatures and a freeform jazz influence. The band's history is deeply rooted in the Seattle indie scene, with members having previously played in respected bands like State Route 522. Sharks Keep Moving released several notable works, including a split 7-inch with The Kentucky Pistol, the *Desert Strings and Drifters* EP, and their full-length album *Sharks Keep Moving* in 1999. The band's sound evolved over time, with later releases like *Pause and Clause* pushing further into freeform jazz territory.
Despite their promising start and critical acclaim, Sharks Keep Moving remained relatively unknown outside of Seattle. The band's members eventually went on to find success in other projects. Jake Snider formed Minus the Bear, while Morgan Henderson continued with The Blood Brothers. Nathan Turpen took a break from music before joining Heiress, and J. Clark co-founded Pretty Girls Make Graves. Despite their short tenure, Sharks Keep Moving left a lasting impact on the indie rock scene with their unique blend of melodic and technical music.
