Inner Life was a New York-based disco and boogie studio project active mainly in the late 1970s and early 1980s, known for its powerhouse vocal performances and lush production. The group featured vocals by Jocelyn Brown, whose soaring, soulful voice helped define tracks like “I’m Caught Up (In a One Night Love Affair)” and “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough,” the latter famously remixed by legendary DJ Larry Levan for the Paradise Garage crowd. Inner Life was produced by Patrick Adams and Greg Carmichael, key figures in the New York dance scene who helped craft the group’s signature blend of funk, soul, and dancefloor-friendly grooves.
Though Inner Life was more of a collective than a performing band, their music had a lasting impact on the disco and post-disco scenes, influencing house music and remaining staples in DJ sets for decades. Their tracks continue to be reissued and remixed, introducing new generations to their infectious blend of heartfelt vocals and sophisticated dance production.
