Richard Beirach

Richard Beirach is an American jazz pianist and composer known for his lyrical touch, harmonically rich writing, and a career that’s moved fluidly between intimate solo piano, small-group modern jazz, and more expansive compositional projects. Emerging in the 1970s, he became especially recognized for his work as a bandleader and for collaborations with major improvisers—most notably saxophonist Dave Liebman—and he’s widely respected both for his original tunes and for his creative reimagining of jazz standards.

Over the years, Beirach’s recordings have shown a deep affinity for the Great American Songbook alongside a distinct personal voice, balancing romantic melody with adventurous harmony. In addition to performing and recording, he’s also been influential as an educator, helping shape generations of jazz pianists through teaching and masterclasses.
