The Accüsed

**The Accüsed** is a gnarly crossover thrash band that's been melting faces since 1980 out of Seattle, Washington. Often dubbed the "founding fathers of splattergrind," these legends blended punk’s raw energy with metal’s breakneck riffs, creating a chaotic sound that inspired countless bands. Fronted by the gravel-voiced Blaine Cook (who later briefly joined *Metal Church*), the group became infamous for their grotesque mascot, Martha Splatterhead—a murderous undead figure who stars in their horror-themed lyrics and album art. Classics like *Grinning Like an Undertaker* and *The Curse of Martha Splatterhead* cemented their cult status, while their relentless live shows (like 2022’s *Murder in Montana* recording) prove they’ve still got bite decades later. Between lineup shifts and hiatuses, they’ve kept their gritty DIY spirit alive, dropping surprises like *Mell Square Musick: The Album* (2023) to remind everyone why they’re the OGs of punk-metal mayhem.
