Petyr is a San Diego-based psychedelic rock band that emerged from the burgeoning Californian skate and surf culture. Fronted by guitarist and vocalist Riley Hawk, the group is deeply rooted in a raw, 70s-inspired blend of heavy riffs and atmospheric smoke. Riley, being the son of skateboarding icon Tony Hawk, brings with him not only a legacy of counterculture but also infuses it with his own brand of hard-hitting musical prowess.
Their self-titled debut album "Petyr" released in 2017, immediately drew attention within the stoner and psychedelic rock communities for its authentic and gritty sound, reminiscent of bands like Black Sabbath and Sleep. This was followed by the singles "Emerald Eyes" and "Smolyk," which further showcased the band's adeptness at crafting infectious grooves and sprawling sonic landscapes. Petyr's music tends to invoke a sense of the ethereal, yet maintains a very tangible sense of adrenaline-fueled drive, a testament to the band's skateboarding background and their ability to mesh it with their heavy, psych-rock sensibilities. The band, climbing the ranks with their dynamic performances and distinctive sound, solidifies their presence in the modern psychedelic scene while nodding to the vintage tones of their forebears.
