Grand Kalle, born Joseph Kabasele Tshamala, was a Congolese singer, songwriter, and bandleader who played a pivotal role in the development of modern Congolese music. Known as the "Father of Congolese Music," he founded the legendary band African Jazz in 1953, which became a breeding ground for some of the most influential musicians in the genre. Grand Kalle's music was characterized by its infectious rhythms, soulful vocals, and socially conscious lyrics, and he is widely regarded as one of the most important figures in African music history.
