Oskar Rieding was a German violinist, teacher, and composer best known for his pedagogical works for violin students. Born in the 19th century, Rieding spent much of his career in Hungary, where he played in the orchestra of the National Theater in Budapest and later taught at the music conservatory there. He composed a number of violin concertinos and concertos that have remained favorites among beginner and intermediate violinists for generations, thanks to their melodic charm and technical accessibility.
His works like the Violin Concerto in B Minor, Op. 35 and Concertino in A Minor, Op. 21 ("In Hungarian Style") are staples in the early violin repertoire, often bridging the gap between simple etudes and more advanced concert literature. Rieding's music continues to be widely performed in student recitals and competitions around the world.
