Sophye Soliveau

Sophye Soliveau is a talented singer, harpist, and choir director originally from Guadeloupe. She was raised in a musical family, exposed to a diverse range of influences, including the traditional gwo ka music of her father and R&B from her brothers. Her musical journey began with classical training at a conservatory, where she studied harp and choral singing. Over time, she developed a passion for Afro-American music, encompassing genres like R&B, soul, and gospel. This blend of influences is beautifully reflected in her debut album, **Initiation**, which combines lush R&B with ethereal choirs and subtle grooves. Sophye was formerly a member of the Afro-Caribbean group Ábàjade and has directed various vocal ensembles, including the Oshun choir and Maré Mananga.

Sophye's music is characterized by its soulful and improvisational nature, drawing inspiration from artists like Rachelle Ferrell and Bobby McFerrin. Her performances have taken her to notable festivals such as the Banlieues Bleues and the Punkt festival in Norway. With **Initiation**, Sophye Soliveau has embarked on a solo journey, celebrating her unique blend of soul and groove with refined orchestration and captivating vocal harmonies.
