Quarteto 1111 was a pioneering Portuguese rock band formed in the late 1960s, widely regarded as one of the first progressive rock bands in Portugal. Led by José Cid, the group blended symphonic rock elements with Portuguese folk influences, and often incorporated poetic and historical themes into their music. Their early work, such as the track “El Rei D. Sebastião,” showcased the use of the harpsichord and Mellotron, which were groundbreaking for the Portuguese music scene at the time.
Though their discography isn't extensive, Quarteto 1111 left a significant mark on the development of Portuguese popular music. Albums like "Onde, Quando, Como, Porquê, Cantamos Pessoas Vivas" and "Viagens na Minha Terra" reflect their experimental edge and lyrical depth. After the group's dissolution, José Cid went on to have a successful solo career, further cementing his legacy in progressive and pop music in Portugal.
