Radha Jayalakshmi refers to the celebrated Indian Carnatic music vocalist duo composed of cousins Radha and Jayalakshmi, both born in 1932. They rose to prominence in the 1940s and 1950s not only as concert performers but also as playback singers in films, with Jayalakshmi primarily taking the playback singer role credited as Radha Jayalakshmi in cinema. The duo belonged to the G. N. Balasubramaniam school of Carnatic music, learning from his disciple T. R. Balasubramaniam and often receiving guidance directly from G.N.B. themselves. Their unique style, deeply rooted in classical tradition, gained significant popularity through All India Radio performances and recordings. Beyond performing, Radha Jayalakshmi became influential teachers who trained many notable Carnatic musicians. They were pioneers in the trend of vocal duos in Carnatic music, a legacy carried forward by subsequent duos such as the Bombay Sisters and Priya Sisters. The duo was honored with the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1981 for their vocal contributions to Carnatic music. Jayalakshmi passed away in Chennai in 2014, but their musical impact remains significant in the South Indian classical music scene.
