Kate Rusby

Kate Rusby, hailing from Barnsley, South Yorkshire, is an English folk singer-songwriter affectionately dubbed the "Barnsley Nightingale." Born on December 4, 1973, into a family of music enthusiasts, Rusby's childhood was steeped in the rich traditions of English folk music, shaping her future career. She first made waves in the folk scene as a young artist in the 1990s, partnering with Kathryn Roberts; their self-titled debut album, "Kate Rusby & Kathryn Roberts," released in 1995, gained critical acclaim and positioned Rusby as a significant new voice in folk music.

Rusby's solo career began to flourish with the release of her solo album "Hourglass" in 1997, and she has since become one of the most beloved figures in contemporary folk. Known for her pure, emotive singing style and the delicate arrangement of traditional and original compositions, she has garnered a devoted following. Over the subsequent decades, Rusby has consistently released music that speaks to the heart of traditional English folk while gently infusing modern sensibilities, marked by milestone albums like "10" and "30: Happy Returns," which celebrated her 10th and 30th years in the music industry, respectively. Her recent works, such as "Underneath the Stars" and "Hand Me Down," showcase her versatility—melding folk with covers of well-known pop songs like "Shake It Off" and "Friday I'm in Love," demonstrating her unique ability to bridge the gap between past and present in her distinctively warm and inviting style.
