Genesis

Genesis is a British rock band formed in 1967 at Charterhouse School, Godalming, Surrey. The band's most prominent lineup consisted of drummer/singer Phil Collins, keyboardist Tony Banks, and bassist/guitarist Mike Rutherford. Genesis is known for their transition from progressive rock in the 1970s to a more commercial pop rock sound in the 1980s. During the ’70s, their complex song structures and elaborate instrumentation, spearheaded by original frontman Peter Gabriel and guitarist Steve Hackett, earned them acclaim. Following Gabriel's departure in 1975 and Hackett's in 1977, Collins took over as lead vocalist, and the band shifted towards more accessible, radio-friendly hits, achieving international success with albums like "Duke" (1980), "Abacab" (1981), "Genesis" (1983), and "Invisible Touch" (1986).

Over the years, Genesis released several successful albums and hit singles, remaining a fixture on the charts well into the '90s. Post-1996, after the release of "Calling All Stations" with Ray Wilson taking over vocals, the band went on hiatus, during which the members focused on solo projects. The 2007 remasters of their past work and live compilations, such as "Live Over Europe, 2007," showed the enduring appeal of their catalog. Despite various lineup changes and the evolution of their musical style, Genesis' legacy is marked by their innovative approach to music, their stage presence, and storytelling in their songs, which continue to inspire generations of musicians and fans alike.
