Time Thief is a collaborative indie pop project formed in Providence, Rhode Island, by Zoë Wyner and James Walsh in the summer of 2024. The duo first worked together around 2016-2017 when Zoë briefly played in James' band Dump Him. Their music blends jangling, sharp pop with heartfelt vocals and melodic hooks influenced by bands like Tiger Trap and Guided by Voices. Time Thief’s sound features energetic guitars and nimble bass lines, creating a wistful yet upbeat vibe that captures both sweetness and melancholy. Their debut self-titled EP, including the single "A Brief History of Ordinary Letdowns," showcases their honest and timeless approach to harmonies and power pop.
The band is hands-on with their recording process, with James handling tracking and mixing and Zoë contributing insight and support. Their music has been released on cassette and limited-edition vinyl through Audio Geography and is associated with labels like Lost Sound Tapes and Musical Fanzine. Time Thief has been actively touring, with recent and upcoming dates across the U.S., including stops in Portland, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. Their latest releases include "bus stop" and the EP "A Brief History of Ordinary Letdowns," reflecting their ongoing creative evolution.
