Dead Moon

Dead Moon was a fiercely independent garage punk band from Portland, Oregon, formed in 1987 by the husband-and-wife duo Fred and Toody Cole, along with drummer Andrew Loomis. Renowned for their raw, lo-fi sound and DIY ethic, Dead Moon combined elements of punk, garage rock, psych, and country blues, building a cult following both in the U.S. and abroad—particularly in Europe. They recorded much of their music on vintage gear, pressing their records themselves and even mastering them on a lathe originally used for The Kingsmen's "Louie Louie."

The band's gritty, heartfelt sound and relentless work ethic made them underground legends. Some of their standout releases include In the Graveyard, Unknown Passage, and Crack in the System. Throughout their career, Dead Moon remained steadfastly true to their vision, often shunning major label offers in favor of complete artistic control. The band's influence continues to resonate, especially among garage rock and punk revivalists. Fred Cole’s passing in 2017 marked the end of an era, but Dead Moon's legacy lives on through their uncompromising music and DIY spirit.
