Timofei Dokshizer (13 December 1921 – 16 March 2005) was one of the most prominent trumpet soloists of the 20th century, acclaimed for his exceptional technique and passionate performances. Born in Nezhin, Ukraine, he started playing the trumpet at an early age and quickly rose to prominence. After graduating from the Moscow Conservatory, where he studied under the distinguished Mikhail Tabakov, Dokshizer became the principal trumpeter of the Bolshoi Theater Orchestra at just 19 years old, a position he held for more than two decades.
Dokshizer's career was marked by his innovative approach to trumpet repertoire, often bringing to light forgotten or contemporary works, which allowed him to showcase his remarkable skill and musicality. His expressive phrasing, technical prowess, and rich, lyrical sound contributed greatly to the enhancement of the trumpet's place in both orchestral and solo performances. Through his recordings, including those of his most recent releases like "Trumpet," "Fantastic Dances," and "Russian Concert," Dokshizer's legacy lives on. His interpretations of Russian classics, as well as works from composers around the world, made him a bridge between the traditions of the East and West. His dedication to expanding the trumpet literature led him to premiere numerous pieces, many of which were written specifically for him, and these works continue to be significant in the trumpet repertoire today. Beyond the stage, he also taught at the Moscow Conservatory, leaving a lasting impact on future generations of trumpeters.
