Trey Anastasio is a renowned American musician and songwriter, best known as the lead guitarist and vocalist for the influential jam band Phish. Born Ernest Joseph Anastasio III on September 30, 1964, in Fort Worth, Texas, he grew up in Princeton, New Jersey, and attended the University of Vermont, where he co-founded Phish in 1983. Anastasio's guitar prowess, combined with his eclectic compositional style, has been at the heart of Phish's genre-defying sound. Phish became one of the most successful live touring bands, famous for their improvisational approach and dedicated fan base.
In addition to his work with Phish, Anastasio has a prolific solo career and has collaborated with numerous artists across a variety of genres. His solo work showcases a range of musical influences from classical to funk, jazz, and rock. Some of his notable solo releases include "Ghosts of the Forest" and the more recent "Lonely Trip," an album which he composed during the COVID-19 quarantine and reflects on the isolated yet introspective experiences of that period. Anastasio also explores orchestral music, as evidenced in the composition "Petrichor Orchestral," further highlighting his versatility as a musician. His live performances, both solo and with various ensembles including the Trey Anastasio Band (TAB), continue to captivate audiences with their mix of heartfelt songwriting and improvisational brilliance.
