Cannibal Ox

Cannibal Ox is an influential underground hip-hop duo hailing from Harlem, New York, consisting of rappers Vast Aire and Vordul Mega. They burst onto the scene in 2001 with their critically acclaimed debut album "The Cold Vein," produced by El-P, co-founder of the influential indie hip-hop label Definitive Jux. The album was celebrated for its dense, abstract lyricism and atmospheric soundscapes, which created a dystopian vision of urban life. It has since been hailed as a classic in alternative hip-hop circles and established Cannibal Ox as a unique and powerful voice in the genre.

After an extended hiatus following "The Cold Vein," during which both members pursued solo careers and collaborations, Cannibal Ox eventually reunited and released their long-awaited sophomore album, "Blade of the Ronin," in 2015. This album marked their return with a renewed ferocity, incorporating both traditional boom-bap and experimental elements within their signature, complex lyrical style. Though the duo has never matched the commercial success of some of their contemporaries, they are respected among hip-hop aficionados for their uncompromising artistry and contribution to the evolution of underground hip-hop. Their later releases, including the "Blade of the Ronin (Deluxe Edition)" and singles like "Iron Rose (Skylab 3 Remix)," continue to exhibit their mastery of vivid, thought-provoking rap intertwined with innovative beats.
