The Ritchie Family is an American vocal group that made their mark in the disco era of the mid to late 1970s. The group, not actually related, was the brainchild of producer Jacques Morali who was also instrumental in the formation of the Village People. The original lineup consisted of three female vocalists, Cassandra Ann Wooten, Gwendolyn Oliver Wesley, and Cheryl Mason Jacks. After significant lineup changes throughout their career, the only constant member has been Cassandra Wooten.
The group first hit the disco scene with their single "Brazil" from the 1975 album of the same name, which set the stage for their lush, upbeat sound. Following up with a string of successful albums and singles, they became known for their dance-floor anthems, including the disco classics "The Best Disco in Town" and "American Generation." In 1982, The Ritchie Family released "I'll Do My Best (For You Baby)," one of their last hits before the disco genre's popularity waned. Despite this, their impact continued with hits such as "All Night All Right" in the 1980s, showcasing their adaptability to the evolving music landscape. With a flair for high-production value and catchy hooks, The Ritchie Family secured their spot as disco royalty. Their exotic themes and vibrant tunes, such as "African Queens" and "Arabian Nights," showcased a blend of cultural influences that became a signature element of their music.
