Rivulets is the stage name of Nathan Leavitt Amundson, a minimalist singer-songwriter originally from Denver, Colorado, who grew up in Alaska before moving at a young age. Since starting the project around 1999-2000 in Minneapolis, Amundson has crafted a distinctive sound marked by sparse, intimate arrangements combining elements of slowcore, sadcore, indie folk, and indie rock. He was the first artist signed to Low’s Chairkickers Union label, releasing his debut self-titled album in 2002, and has since put out several critically acclaimed albums on various independent labels including Important Records and the French label Talitres.
Over the years, Rivulets has collaborated with notable musicians such as Alan Sparhawk and Mimi Parker from Low, Bob Weston of Shellac, and members of The Magnetic Fields and Swans, contributing to a rich, collaborative indie music environment. His music is known for its emotional depth, minimalist instrumental textures, and personal lyrical storytelling, making it a favorite in the slowcore and indie folk scenes. Beyond his own recordings, Amundson has also worked as a songwriter for other artists, including Berlin-based pop singer Clara Hill.
