George Pehlivanian

George Pehlivanian is a French-American conductor born in Beirut, Lebanon. His musical journey began with piano lessons at the age of three and violin at six. In 1975, he moved with his family to Los Angeles, where he studied conducting under renowned mentors like Pierre Boulez, Lorin Maazel, and Ferdinand Leitner. He also spent two summers at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena, earning the Diploma di Merito. Pehlivanian gained international recognition in 1991 by becoming the first American to win the Grand Prize at the Besançon Conducting Competition. He has conducted numerous leading orchestras worldwide, including the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the Philharmonia, and has led performances at prestigious opera houses and festivals.

Pehlivanian's discography includes notable recordings such as Liszt's complete works for piano and orchestra, and Shostakovich's "Leningrad Symphony." He has also conducted world premieres and has been involved in various festivals, showcasing his versatility in both symphonic and operatic realms. His career has included roles such as Chief Conductor of the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra and Principal Guest Conductor positions with several prominent orchestras.
